The Law Society of Hong Kong is a professional association for solicitors in Hong Kong vested with statutory powers to regulate the professional conduct of solicitors, trainee solicitors and foreign lawyers. It was incorporated in 1907 as a company limited by guarantee.

A group practice is neither a law firm nor a legal entity of any kind. It is a mode of operation whereby two or more firms of solicitors conduct their businesses as separate legal practices from the same address not in the form of partnership but cooperating to share the use of facilities and unqualified staff. It enables solicitors’ firms to pool their resources and reduce operation costs through the sharing of overheads. At the same time, it allows each member firm to retain its own practice identity and operate as an independent entity. The Law List is published by the Law Society for the purpose of facilitating the public and members of the Law Society in identifying and locating solicitors, foreign lawyers and law firms registered with the Law Society. The personal data contained in The Law List should not be used for any other purposes. It is a criminal offence under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance to use the personal data in The Law List for direct marketing without the data subjects' consent.
