INVESTIGATION COUNSEL (Ref: COM/IC)

The Law Society seeks applications from an enthusiastic and responsible solicitor to fill the position of Investigation Counsel in the Compliance Department. The appointee will be responsible for investigating complaints, conducting inspections against law firms and assisting Intervention Agents in the intervention of law firms.

Requirements:

  • More than 3 years' post-qualification experience;
  • Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua) and be able to prepare written reports in English;
  • Previous investigation experience will be an advantage;
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills, organized, highly efficient and independent.

ASSISTANT, STANDARDS & DEVELOPMENT (Ref: S&D/ASST)

The Law Society seeks applications from enthusiastic, responsible person to fill the position of Assistant in the Standards and Development Department.

Job Duties:

  • To assist in the administration of the training programmes of the Law Society; 
  • To be responsible for the logistics of training courses, organisation of conferences, assessments, professional examinations and other activities;
  • To assist in accreditation of courses; and
  • To handle enquiries from members, course registrants, course providers, and examination candidates.

 

Requirements:

  • F. 6 or above with good command of written and spoken English and Chinese;
  • At least 1 year working experience;
  • Proficiency in MS Office & Chinese Word Processing;
  • Good telephone manners; and
  • Immediate availability is preferred.

COMMUNICATIONS & EXTERNAL AFFAIRS OFFICER (Ref: CEA/OFR)

The Law Society seeks applications from enthusiastic, competent and suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Communications and External Affairs Officer.

The appointee will be responsible for supporting the communications and external affairs function of the Law Society. This includes assisting in the organization of publicity, local events, and activities outside Hong Kong to promote Hong Kong’s legal services and enhancing the corporate image of the Law Society. The appointee will also assist in news-monitoring, prepare daily news summaries, draft executive speeches, coordinate the production of promotional materials, prepare papers for committee meetings, as well as provide support for media activities. 

Requirements:

  •  degree holder with 2 to 3 years of experience in similar capacity;
  • A good command of written and spoken English and Chinese, including proficiency in Putonghua;
  • Independent, strong communication skills, and able to multi-task and work under pressure;
  • Good computer skills, including MS Office and Chinese Word Processing;
  • Travelling to Greater China region may be required;
  • Experience in event management will be an advantage;
  • Knowledge in using Zoom, Photoshop and other graphic design software will be an advantage;
  • Immediate availability is preferable.

MONITORING ACCOUNTANT (Ref: COM/MA)

The Law Society wishes to recruit an enthusiastic and responsible accountant to fill the position of Monitoring Accountant in the Compliance Department.

The primary duties of the Monitoring Accountant, who will report to the Assistant Director, Conduct, will be:

  • to visit law firms to conduct inspections into their accounting procedures to ensure compliance with the Solicitors’ Accounts Rules;
  • to provide assistance to statutory Inspectors appointed by the Council in conducting inspections;
  • to give seminars to lawyers and law firms’ accounting staff; and 
  • to provide assistance in statutory interventions.

 

The successful applicant must have:-

  • two years’ post-qualification experience as a certified public accountant;
  • good command of written and spoken English and be able to prepare written reports and give oral presentations in English;
  • computer knowledge with good skills in MS Office; and
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills, organized, efficient and independent.

 

Applicants with a working knowledge of the Solicitors’ Accounts Rules and experience in the preparation of reports under the Accountant’s Report Rules are preferred.

PROFESSIONAL INDEMNITY SCHEME (“PIS”) OFFICER (Ref: PA/PISO)

The Law Society seeks applications from enthusiastic, competent and suitably qualified persons to fill the position of PIS Officer in the Practitioners Affairs Department.

The PIS Officer will assist the Assistant Director, PIS in the daily administration of the PIS and execution of the decisions of the Board of Hong Kong Solicitors Indemnity (“Company”) and the Council of the Law Society. These duties include:

  • Handling internal insurance enquiries as well as external enquiries from Members of the Law Society, the Government, the Legislative Council etc. on the operation of the PIS and the Solicitors (Professional Indemnity) Rules (“the Rules”);
  • Liaising with the insurance broker in placing various insurance cover for the PIS, the Company and the Law Society;
  • Working closely with managers of the PIS, auditors, actuaries, investment consultant, investment managers and legal advisors and co-ordinating their work;
  • Preparing agenda papers and reports for meetings;
  • Preparing investment and claims reports to the Board and/or the Council;
  • Assisting to prepare draft bilingual amendments to the Rules and any other relevant legislations;
  • Performing research on ad hoc topics;
  • Assisting on the PIS renewal.

 

Requirements:

  • University graduate preferably in Law;
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience working in a legal or insurance environment;
  • Good English and Chinese writing skills; 
  • Insurance knowledge and experience is preferred;
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Chinese Word Processing.

SENIOR OFFICER, COMMUNICATIONS & EXTERNAL AFFAIRS  (Ref: CEA/SO)

The Law Society seeks applications from enthusiastic, competent and suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Senior Officer in the Communications and External Affairs Department.

Reporting to the Director of Communications and External Affairs, the appointee will 

  • assist in planning and organising media relations, communciations and promotional initiatives to raise the profile of the Law Society and its members;
  • monitor media reports and prepare daily summaries of the media reports;
  • assist in issues management, including formulating lines-to-take and handling media enquiries; 
  • prepare communications write-ups such as executive speeches, advertorials and feature articles;
  • coordinate the production of promotional materials and prepare papers for committee meetings;
  • assist in organising media events, Council visits and major publicity events to promote Hong Kong’s legal services and enhance the corporate image of the Law Society; and
  • perform ad-hoc tasks and other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • A degree holder, preferably in public relations, communications, journalism or equivalent, with 2 to 3 years of experience in similar capacity;
  • A good command of written and spoken English and Chinese, including proficiency in Putonghua; 
  • Independent, strong communication skills, and able to multi-task and work under tight deadlines and pressure;
  • Good computer skills, including MS Office and Chinese Word Processing; 
  • Willing to work overtime or outside office hours as and when necessary; 
  • Travelling may be required;
  • Knowledge in using Zoom, Photoshop and other graphic design software will be an advantage; 
  • Immediate availability is preferable.
