The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China and Shenzhen University joined hands in hosting the “Symposium on Foreign-related Legal Affairs Commemorating the 25th Anniversary of Hong Kong's Return to the Motherland” on 9 June 2022, under the theme “Foreign-related Rule of Law in the One Country, Two Systems Context: Opportunity and Outlook”.

President C. M. Chan was invited to speak at the session entitled “The Role and Function of HKSAR in Rule of Law Cooperation under the ‘Belt and Road’”, which was moderated by Past President and Chairman of the Belt and Road Committee of the Law Society (“BRC”) Dr. Thomas So.

Meanwhile, Vice-Chairman of BRC, Vice-Chairman of the eBRAM International Online Dispute Resolution Centre, Director of the AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre, as well as Chairman of the Hong Kong and Mainland Legal Professional Association Mr. Nick Chan spoke on the opportunities and challenges for HKSAR to develop as an international legal and dispute resolution centre in the Asia-Pacific region.

The symposium attracted the participation over 100 senior officials, legal experts and academics from the Mainland, Hong Kong and Macau. Vice-President cum Chairman of Greater China Legal Affairs Committee Roden Tong and Vice-President Christopher Yu also attended the event. 

The “Symposium on Foreign-related Legal Affairs commemorating the 25th Anniversary of Hong Kong's Return to the Motherland” was held on 9 June 2022 in hybrid format.
