The “Policies, Strategies and Opportunities” webinar on opportunities for Hong Kong’s legal industry under the “14th Five-Year Plan” was held successfully on 12th April. The event was co-organised by the Law Society and the Department of Justice. Supporting organisations included Invest Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association Legal Affairs Steering Committee.

Guest speakers included Mr. C. Y. Leung, Vice-Chairman of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Ms. Maria Tam, Vice-Chairperson of the Committee for the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region under the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Ms. Teresa Cheng, SC, Secretary for Justice of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. In her welcoming speech, Ms. Melissa Pang, President of the Law Society, expressed her confidence that Hong Kong's judicial and legal system will continue to uphold the rule of law, and highlighted that the profession must seize the opportunities brought by the Belt and Road Initiative to give full play to Hong Kong's advantages.

Under the topics “Unleashing opportunities for cross-border commercial transactions” and “Breaking down barriers for dispute resolution”, experienced legal professionals and experts from the business sector were invited to share their valuable insights at the panel discussions.

The event provided trilingual simultaneous interpretation services, allowing different attendees to understand ways to embrace the opportunities under the national policy and maintain the advantages of Hong Kong's legal profession. The webinar was broadcast on different online platforms and received more than 87,000 views.
