The Law Society hosted the 5th Joint Meeting on 17 October 2020 online to promote exchange and enhance the development of the legal services industry in the Greater Bay Area. Representatives of the Law Society at the meeting included Ms. Melissa Pang, President of the Law Society, Mr. C.M. Chan, Vice President and Chairman of the Greater China Legal Affairs Committee, Mr. Thomas So, Immediate-Past-President and Chairman of the Greater Bay Area Sub-committee, Mr. Neville Cheng and Mr. James Wong, Vice-Chairmen of the Greater China Legal Affairs Committee, and Ms. Heidi Chu, Secretary General of the Law Society.

On 11 August 2020, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress approved the pilot scheme to allow Hong Kong and Macao lawyers to practise in the nine cities within the Greater Bay Area. Attendees at the meeting exchanged views on the policy and training arrangements. Lawyers associations from different regions also discussed the establishment of a joint liaison working group to facilitate communications and implement the decisions made at the Joint Meetings.
