On 25 June 2025, President of The Law Society of Hong Kong Mr Roden Tong received a delegation led by Vice-Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (“CPPCC”) Mr Huang Wu. Vice-President Ms Careen Wong, Council Member and Vice-Chairlady of the Greater China Legal Affairs Committee (“GCLAC”) Ms Heidi Chui and Vice-Chairman of GCLAC Dr James Wong received the delegation as well.

Together, we engaged in insightful discussions about the future of arbitration in the GBA, with the dialogue encompassing several pivotal topics. The discussion addressed the rapid evolution of arbitration institutions in the GBA and the necessity for reforms to establish internationally compatible arbitration rules that navigate the challenges under three different jurisdictions.

As a whole, the meeting, we took the opportunity to highlight that Hong Kong, with a strong common law system and a wealth of legal talent, enjoys robust support from the motherland while maintaining global connections under the “One Country, Two Systems” framework, making it the preferred choice for international and Mainland institutions seeking legal and arbitration services.
