Under the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Hong Kong and Shenzhen are deepening the collaboration in law, finance, healthcare, and higher education.
On 7 June 2025, President of The Law Society of Hong Kong Mr Roden Tong was invited by HKU SPACE to share his views alongside President of the Shenzhen Lawyers Association Mr Zhang Bin and the Programme Director of the College of Humanities and Law at HKU SPACE Dr Devin Lin at a seminar focusing on the collaborative development of the legal professions in Hong Kong and Shenzhen.
In his remarks, President Tong said that the 14th Five-Year Plan, coupled with the Belt & Road Initiative, sets the stage for significant demand for quality legal services. Hong Kong lawyers, equipped with dual qualifications, are exceptionally well-positioned to advise international clients on both inbound and outbound investments.
He underscored the strengths of Hong Kong’s legal profession and highlighted that the Law Society maintains an open-door policy allowing overseas lawyers to enter the solicitors’ profession, enhancing our legal community and reinforcing Hong Kong’s stature as an international financial and dispute resolution hub. After the seminar, President Tong met some members and addressing questions from a few Mainland lawyers who are interested in becoming foreign registered lawyers.
Moving forward, the Law Society will continue to actively explore opportunities for our members with our Shenzhen counterparts. We look forward to our collaborative efforts in advancing the legal professions in both Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
