President of The Law Society of Hong Kong Mr Roden Tong, and Vice-Presidents Mr Amirali Nasir and Ms Careen Wong attended The Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (“CEPA”) Forum, co-hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and the Hong Kong SAR Government on 19 February 2025.
Representatives from The Supreme People’s Court of the People’s Republic of China, Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and the Hong Kong SAR Government introduced the new features under the Second Agreement Concerning Amendment to CEPA Agreement on Trade in Services, including the new developments in “allowing Hong Kong-invested enterprises to adopt Hong Kong law” and “allowing Hong Kong-invested enterprises to choose for arbitration to be seated in Hong Kong” to the business sectors.
President Tong received a media interview after the CEPA Forum. He highlighted, among other things, the central authorities’ recognition of Hong Kong’s common law system and arbitration services, and the potential benefits of the new features under the Second Agreement Concerning Amendment to CEPA Agreement on Trade in Services to the legal industry in Hong Kong.
