Co-organised by The Law Society and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (“HKTDC”), the GBA Legal Seminar was held on 13 November 2024 at the HKTDC SME Centre in a hybrid format. The event was supported by the Department of Justice of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR and Guangdong Lawyers Association.

Dr Horace Cheung, Deputy Secretary for Justice, the Government of the Hong Kong SAR, as well as Ms Anna Cheung, Director, Service Promotion of HKTDC, delivered speeches at the event.

During the seminar, Mr Neville Cheng, Council member, Vice-Chairman of the Greater China Legal Affairs Committee (“GCLAC”) and Chairman of Working Party on Research on Greater Bay Area, shared the findings of the research report. Besides, Mr Deng Jie, Deputy Secretary General of Guangdong Lawyers Association, analysed the practice situation and development of lawyers in the GBA.

The research project was funded by the Hong Kong SAR Government’s “Professional Services Advancement Support Scheme”.

Mr Roden Tong, President of The Law Society, said that The Law Society has been actively promoting the legal sector to harness its distinct advantages within the “One Country, Two Systems, Three Jurisdictions” framework.

Speakers of the Thematic Sharing Session shared their professional expertise and insights in relation to the legal development in GBA.

The event attracted in-person participation of over 70 Hong Kong and Guangdong lawyers, as well as representatives from various consulates and chambers of commerce.
