The Law Society signed an updated Cooperation Agreement with Xinjiang Lawyers Association on 8 November 2024 during the Hong Kong Legal Week 2024.
The Cooperation Agreement was signed between the Presidents of the two organisations, Mr Roden Tong and Mr Geng Bao Jian. Adding significance to this important occasion was the gracious presence of Mr Paul LAM Ting-kwok, Secretary for Justice, and Mr Ma Jin Guo, Director of the Rule of Law Research Division of the Department of Justice of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, as witnesses to the agreement signing ceremony.
Representatives of the Council included Vice-Presidents Amirali Nasir, Christopher Yu and Careen Wong, Council members Tom Fu and Vincent Tso, as well as Council member and Vice-Chairman of the Greater China Legal Affairs Committee Neville Cheng.
The signing of the Cooperation Agreement marks a milestone of The Law Society's efforts in advancing the Belt and Road Initiative, which demonstrated The Law Society’s dedication to exploring opportunities and discussing solutions for challenges brought about by the Belt and Road Initiative for the legal profession.
