Jointly organised by Hainan Lawyers Association and the Law Society, the Webinar for Hainan and Hong Kong Lawyers was held on 28 February 2024 under the theme “Strengthen Exchanges and Cooperation to Achieve Win win Development of Hainan and Hong Kong Lawyers”. The event attracted the participation of over 300 lawyers from Hainan and Hong Kong.

During the webinar, then President C. M. Chan highlighted that Hong Kong lawyers have extensive experience in handling cross-border and multilateral legal issues, which are precisely the foreign-related legal talents needed by the Mainland to “go global”.

Mr Tong Cheng, Director of Hainan Lawyers Work Bureau, and Mr Raymond Yip, Chief Representative of Hainan International Economic Development Bureau in Hong Kong, delivered keynote speeches at the event. Seasoned lawyers from the two regions were invited to share their views at the thematic-sharing session.

Meanwhile, speakers from Hong Kong included Chairman of eBRAM International Online Dispute Resolution Centre Dr Thomas So; Council Member, Chairlady of Standing Committee on Standards & Development and Member of the Greater China Legal Affairs Committee (“GCLAC”) Careen Wong; Council Member and GCLAC Vice-Chairman Neville Cheng, and GCLAC Members Daniel Leung and William Ling.

The event was moderated by GCLAC Member Stanley Chan; and the Director of Foreign-related and Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese Professional Committee of Hainan Lawyers Association Ms He Liuqing.

 

The Law Society representatives had insightful discussions with counterparts on strengthening cooperation between Hainan and Hong Kong lawyers.
