The Law Society’s Forum on “Doing Business in Hong Kong in a Rapidly Changing World” was successfully concluded at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in a hybrid format on 11 July 2023, with registration of over 2,100 participants from 31 jurisdictions, including the physical attendance of more than 50 representatives from Consulate-Generals and overseas chambers of commerce.

Through open, frank, fact-based discussions and exchange among government officials, business representatives, as well as experts and scholars from the legal sector across the world, this Forum aimed at facilitating insightful exchange of experiences and ideas that can strengthen Hong Kong’s status as a leading international legal and financial hub and a gateway to Mainland China for doing international businesses in the post-pandemic era.

The Law Society was honoured to have representatives of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to grace us with their presence at the Forum opening session.

The Law Society was also honoured to have the senior representatives from the Hong Kong SAR Government and the Judiciary to share their insightful views at different sessions. They include the Honourable Mr Justice Johnson Lam, Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal; the Honourable Paul Lam, SBS, SC, JP, Secretary for Justice; the Honourable Horace Cheung, SBS, JP, Deputy Secretary for Justice; the Honourable Christopher Hui, GBS, JP, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury; the Honourable Tang Ping-keung, GBS, PDSM, JP, Secretary for Security; and Prof the Honourable Sun Dong, JP, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry.

Eminent speakers from various sectors shared their valuable insights on the four session topics which carry significant important to the international standing of Hong Kong with the forum participants.

The event was concluded with closing remarks by Mr Ronald Sum, Council Member and Chairman of Forum Organising Committee.
