Co-organised by the Department of Justice (“DoJ”) and Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the large-scale outreach promotional campaign “Resolve2Win - Legal Services of Hong Kong, Opportunities for All” was held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 15 to 17 March 2023. Led by the Deputy Secretary for Justice Mr Horace Cheung, the Campaign aimed to strengthen the ties and collaboration with the legal sector in Thailand, as well as to promote and enhance Hong Kong’s leading position as an international legal and dispute resolution services centre in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, and to tell the good stories of Hong Kong.

Headed by President C. M. Chan, a 19-person Law Society’s delegation including Past Presidents Huen Wong, Dieter Yih, Stephen Hung and Thomas So; Vice-Presidents Roden Tong and Christopher Yu; Council Member Ronald Sum; and Chairs and Members of various specialist committees joined the campaign. The delegation comprised practitioners specialising in various practice areas including but not limited to arbitration, mediation, dispute resolution, LawTech, criminal law, company law, civil litigation, intellectual property, transportation and logistics, investment products and financial services, constitutional affairs and human rights, and more.

The Law Society was honoured to witness the signing of the “Mediate First” Pledge by new pledgees from Thailand, which promotes using mediation to resolve disputes before pursuing other dispute resolution processes or court litigation. The delegation also met with the Thailand Arbitration Centre, Lawyers Council of Thailand and Thai-Chinese Chamber of Commerce to exchange views on issues of mutual interest and explore possible future collaboration.
