At the invitation of the Law Society of Singapore, President C. M. Chan attended the Opening of the Legal Year in Singapore from 8 to 9 January 2023. Meanwhile, Vice-President Amirali Nasir and Immediate Past President Melissa Pang (in her capacity as the LAWASIA President) were also invited by the Malaysian Bar to attend the Opening of the Legal Year in Malaysia during the same period.

Our Law Society delegates participated in fruitful discussions with bar leaders and presidents of law societies from around the world at the Presidents’ Roundtables on various important topics such as the future of the legal profession, diversity and inclusiveness, and challenges to the independence of judiciary. They also took this opportunity to meet with a number of lawyers’ associations to explore possible future collaborations. These lawyers’ associations included the Advocates Association of Sarawak, the Daini Tokyo Bar Association, the German Federal Bar, the Guangdong Lawyers Association, the Inter-Pacific Bar Association, the LAWASIA, the Law Society of Brunei Darussalam, the Law Society of Singapore, the Malaysian Bar, the Sabah Law Society and the Taiwan Bar Association.

The President also paid a courtesy call to Ms Sun Haiyan, the Chinese Ambassador to Singapore, and updated her on the latest legal developments in Hong Kong.
