(for immediate release)

The Law Society strongly condemns the violent attacks on members of the public in the street on 24 May 2020. Inflicting bodily harm on others is a serious crime. The open defiance of law and order and the use of violence must be abhorred.

The Law Society notes with sadness and concern that a member of the Law Society is amongst those injured. According to the member, he was violently beaten by a group with various hard objects including umbrellas. He has been hospitalized and the matter has been reported to the police.

The Law Society reiterates that all forms of violence, which are to be deplored as an affront to the rule of law, must stop immediately.

It appears that, after the attack, personal details of the member and his family have been published online without consent. The Law Society condemns all types of cyber-bullying and reminds everyone of the civil and potential criminal liabilities incurred by "doxxing".
