(for immediate release)

A new Helpline, 28401211 launched by the Law Society to provide up to one hour of free legal consultation on personal injuries claims will start taking calls from the public tomorrow (June 15th).

The helpline will operate from 8.30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday, connecting enquirers to a panel of 150 personal injuries case practitioners who volunteer up to one hour of free legal counsel for each enquiry. Voice mail service will be activated after business hours and during public holidays.

Callers lodging the required information, including name, ID number, telephone number and date of the accident will be contacted by a lawyer within one working day.

Ludwig Ng Siu-wing, Chairman of the Law Society’s working party on publicity campaign concerning recovery agents says, “Claimants pursuing personal injuries compensation are encouraged to make use of the helpline to seek proper legal assistance directly from lawyers and avoid engaging middleman on the condition of ‘no win, no fee’ or sharing a portion of compensation.” Mr Ng points out that it may be illegal for anyone not party to a claim to encourage and financially support a claimant on the condition of sharing court compensation as reward.
