The Council of the Law Society of Hong Kong condemns the attack on Solicitor and Legislator Mr Albert Ho Chun Yan that occurred on Sunday 20 August 2006 in Central. There are suggestions in the press that Mr Ho was attacked because of his professional involvement in legal disputes. The Law Society is gravely concerned that if such is true, the attack would constitute a serious threat to the rule of law in Hong Kong. Lawyers must be able to represent their clients without fear for their personal safety. The unlawful use of force and violence is reprehensible.
The Law Society urges the Police to spare no effort in bringing the attackers to justice.
