INVESTIGATION COUNSEL (Ref: COM/IC)

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, PRACTITIONERS AFFAIRS

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced practitioner to fill the post of Assistant Director in the Practitioners Affairs Department.

Reporting to the Deputy Secretary General and Director of Practitioners Affairs, the Assistant Director assists and attends upon various specialist committees of the Law Society to review legislative proposals, conduct researches, and prepare reports and submissions.  The Assistant Director works with experienced practitioners to consider and to discuss a wide range of challenging and interesting legal issues.  He or she would also have to liaise with various external bodies such as the Administration, the Judiciary and the Legislature.

The applicant must be able to demonstrate:

  • extensive experience of law practice in Hong Kong, including disputes resolution.  Knowledge in intellectual property law and constitutional law is an advantage 
  • understanding of legislative process and policy formulation
  • strong communication and analytical skills
  • excellent standard of written and spoken English and Chinese.

 

As a guide the applicant should have not less than 5 years post qualification experience. Research experience is preferred.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF MEMBER SERVICES (Ref: ADMS)

The Law Society of Hong Kong invites applications from candidates with university degree and at least 5 years of working experience to fill the position of Assistant Director of Member Services.  Experience in legal/service industry will be an advantage.

Reporting to the Deputy Secretary General and Director of Member Services, the Assistant Director of Member Services will have the responsibilities of coordinating events, exhibitions, trips and functions for members of the Law Society; overseeing the members-related programmes; overseeing Law Society members’ publications and their related websites; assisting in the planning and execution of the Law Society’s members-related technological strategies and activities; preparing reports and articles on members’ functions; and acting as Secretary for the relevant committees.

AML OFFICER (Ref: AML/OFR)

The Law Society seeks applications from enthusiastic, competent and suitably qualified persons to fill the position of AML Officer in the Standards and Development Department.

Job Duties:

Working in a regulatory organization in Hong Kong, you will:

  • assist in developing and documenting risk-based approach to Anti-Money Laundering (AML) / Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF) reviews of law firms;
  • lead and manage review engagements from planning, risk assessment, fieldwork to reporting;
  • evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, identify areas for improvement and provide sound recommendations;
  • be expected to possess strong data analytics and excel skills;
  • monitor and analyse AML/CTF publications, trends, regulatory updates and changes;
  • maintain and update data submissions in a manual data repository system; and
  • assist with drafting AML/CTF policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) in banks, security firms in Hong Kong, Financial Crime Audit or Consulting;
  • Degree in Accountancy, Finance, Law, Statistics or Risk Management;
  • Solid experience in Financial Crime Compliance is essential;
  • Strong Excel, PowerPoint and data analytics skills and good skills in MS Office;
  • Knowledge of AML/CTF laws and regulations, standards and market practices;
  • Experience in conducting FCC related reviews/audits and detailed knowledge of Client Due Diligence processes in particular;
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential; and
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task with high attention to detail.

COMMUNICATIONS AND EXTERNAL AFFAIRS OFFICER (Ref: CEA/OFR)

The appointee will be responsible for supporting the communications and external affairs function of the Law Society. This includes assisting in the organization of publicity, local events, and activities outside Hong Kong to promote Hong Kong’s legal services and enhancing the corporate image of the Law Society. The appointee will also assist in preparing papers for committee meetings, drafting executive speeches, coordinating the production of promotional materials, news-monitoring, as well as providing support for media activities.   

Requirements:

  • A degree holder with 2 to 3 years of experience in similar capacity;
  • A good command of written and spoken English and Chinese, including proficiency in Putonghua;
  • Independent, strong communication skills, and able to multi-task and work under pressure;
  • Good computer skills, including MS Office and Chinese Word Processing;
  • Travelling may be required;
  • Experience in event management will be an advantage;

LEGAL RESEARCHER (Ref: CEA/LR)

SENIOR AML OFFICER (Ref: AML/SO)

The Law Society seeks applications from enthusiastic, competent and suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Senior AML Officer in the Standards and Development Department.

Job Duties:

  • Working in a regulatory organization in Hong Kong, you will be responsible for supporting the Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF) and Sanctions review function within the organization;
  • Providing assistance to law firms regarding AML/CTF rules, standards and market practices, including drafting processes and procedures underpinning the supervisory regime for legal firms in Hong Kong;
  • Assisting in the development of sectoral risk assessment and monitoring methodology to AML/CTF reviews;
  • Developing and providing AML/CTF training and draft learning materials; and
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of internal controls, identify areas for improvement and provide sound recommendations.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 6 to 7 years’ solid advisory experience in Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) in banks, security firms or law firms in Hong Kong, Financial Crime Audit or Consulting;
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in drafting FCC policies and procedures;
  • Experience in conducting FCC related reviews/audits and detailed knowledge of Client Due Diligence processes in particular;
  • Excellent written and oral communication in English is essential;
  • Computer literate with good skills in MS Office;
  • Legal background beneficial but not essential; and
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task with high attention to detail.
