DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS & EXTERNAL AFFAIRS AND MEMBER SERVICES (Ref: CEA&MS/D)

The Law Society of Hong Kong invites applications from high-calibre candidates for the position of Director of Communications and External Affairs and Member Services.  The appointee will lead the Communications and External Affairs and Member Services Department to organise events and activities as well as to devise strategic and operational plans to promote the image of the Law Society.

Job Description:

  • Building and maintaining positive media and PR relationships;
  • Handling media relations and coordinating media events;
  • Monitoring and summarizing media reports for internal circulation;
  • Drafting press releases and other communication materials;
  • Coordinating publicity campaigns and enhancing the corporate image;
  • Producing corporate materials including corporate video, brochure and other promotional materials;
  • Serving as the key media contact and supporting the President in media and public relations;
  • Leading and managing communication in any crisis situation;
  • Advising on public relations and media issues;
  • Developing, refining and enhancing all internal and external communications;
  • Conducting research and preparing reports on relevant topics;
  • Ensuring alignment of departmental activities with the Law Society’s values and plans;
  • Acting as Secretary for various committees and working parties.

Qualifications:

  • A recognized university degree in law, mass communications, journalism, language or a related discipline, with minimum 15 years of relevant experience; 
  • Able to demonstrate a successful track record at a similar level in related field(s);
  • Strong media relations and organizational skills;
  • Ability to manage crisis communications effectively;
  • Knowledge of the legal profession and relevant policies is an advantage;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities in Chinese and English.

DIRECTOR OF PROFESSIONAL INDEMNITY SCHEME (Ref: DPIS)

The Law Society seeks applications from enthusiastic, competent and suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Director of Professional Indemnity Scheme (“DPIS”).

DPIS assists Hong Kong Solicitors Indemnity Fund Limited (“Company”) in administering the Scheme and the fund established under rule 3 of the Solicitors (Professional Indemnity) Rules, Cap. 159M (“Fund”); and is accountable to the Company and the Law Society for the operation of the Scheme and the Fund. DPIS manages the overall operation of the Company, and providing advices thereon to the Company as required.

At a senior level, the DPIS takes up the following roles and duties: 

  • Assisting the Company in the formulation and the review of various insurance policies including but not limited to the insurance policies on Directors’ and Officers’ liability, professional indemnity insurance and other covers for the Scheme or the Company; and driving discussions thereon; 
  • Monitoring the Fund’s return and investment guidelines and strategies; 
  • Overseeing the preparation of and the collating of the relevant reports and other documentation required for the actuarial assessment, calculation as well as the methodology to be adopted by the Company for the professional indemnity scheme, such include (and are not limited to) IBNER reports, actuarial assessments, investment reports and fund surplus projection; 
  • Supervising logistics and secretarial support to the Company, its Committees and working parties, set up on an ad hoc basis or otherwise; and 
  • Assisting the general membership of the Law Society, as well as the Council of the Law Society, its committees (including the Claims Committee) and working parties, in managing and responding to the Professional Indemnity Scheme in compliance with their relevant statutory obligations, including Cap 159, and Cap 159M.

The following qualifications and experience are expected of DPIS:

  • Admitted in Hong Kong with at least 10 years’ post qualification experience;
  • Solid knowledge and understanding about professional indemnity and insurance practice;
  • Experience of working in large corporates is an added advantage; 
  • A motivated, proactive individual who is mature with good leadership skills, and has the ability to work independently with strong problem-solving and analytical skills; and 
  • Excellent level of both written and spoken English and Chinese.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, COMMUNICATIONS & EXTERNAL AFFAIRS AND MEMBER SERVICES (Ref: CEA&MS/AD)

The Law Society of Hong Kong invites applications from high-calibre candidates for the position of Assistant Director, Communications & External Affairs and Member Services. The appointee will have overall responsibilities of leading a small team to organise events and activities as well as to devise strategic and operational plans to promote the image of the Law Society.

Job Duties:

  • Organise events, exhibitions, visits and functions for members of the Law Society and for the public;
  • Plan and execute the Law Society’s strategies and activities;
  • Plan and manage contracts and activities that are contracted out;
  • Draft communications write-ups such as executive speeches, advertorials and feature articles;
  • Oversee Law Society’s publications, websites and digital media channels;
  • Engage stakeholders, counterpart organisations as well as trade and industry associations to ensure corporate image and messages are presented effectively and properly;
  • Provide strategic and implementation advice on media issues where necessary;
  • Act as Secretaries to relevant committees and working groups (e.g., prepare meeting papers and minutes); and

Requirements:

  • A recognized university degree in law, mass communications, journalism, language or a related discipline;
  • A minimum of 10 years of solid experience in public relations, marketing and event management; with at least 3 years in managerial position;
  • Profound knowledge of multi-stakeholder communications, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently under tight deadlines;
  • Excellent planning, organisation, and management skills;
  • Proactive, result-oriented, creative and highly self-motivated;

Head of IT (Ref: IT/H)

The Law Society of Hong Kong invites applications from high-calibre candidates for the position of Head of IT. The appointee will lead the Society’s overall IT strategy, operations and infrastructure, ensuring that technology services effectively support the work of a leading professional body, its office premises, and its multifunctional space for meetings, training, events and member engagement. This role will drive digital innovation, operational resilience and long-term technology planning in alignment with the vision and mission of the Law Society.

Job Duties:

  • Provide strategic leadership, direction and governance on all IT matters across the Law Society of Hong Kong;
  • Develop and implement IT strategies, policies, standards and roadmaps to support the Society’s operational, administrative, member service and event functions;
  • Oversee the planning, operation and continuous enhancement of IT infrastructure, network, systems, applications, cybersecurity and user support services;
  • Lead the technology planning and management for the Society’s office premises, including workplace systems, meeting room technology, connectivity and business continuity arrangements;
  • Oversee the technical planning and operations of the Law Society’s multifunctional space, ensuring reliable support for conferences, seminars, training programmes, hybrid events and other member-facing activities;
  • Work closely with external vendors, consultants and service providers on the planning, development and implementation of the Law Society’s multifunctional space, including the specification and integration of appropriate IT solutions between different spaces;
  • Manage IT budgets, procurement, contracts, vendors and project resources, and ensure delivery of projects on time and within budget;
  • Ensure robust information security, data protection, compliance, risk management and disaster recovery arrangements across all technology platforms; and
  • Lead, mentor and develop the IT team while working closely with senior management and internal stakeholders to deliver effective, future-ready technology solutions.

Requirements:

  • A recognised university degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or a related discipline;
  • A minimum of 15 years of solid and progressive experience in IT leadership, infrastructure, network and systems management, cybersecurity, digital transformation, enterprise applications, software management including mobile applications, and user support, with at least 8 years in a senior managerial role;
  • Proven experience in overseeing top-notch technology for office premises, including meeting room systems, workplace technology and operational readiness;
  • Knowledge on the operation of audiovisual systems for conference, training or events is a definite advantage;
  • Preferably with exposure to a professional body, membership organisation, public sector, education institution or NGO environment;
  • Strong strategic thinking, leadership, stakeholder management and project management capabilities, with the ability to translate organisational needs into practical technology solutions;
  • Strong knowledge of information security, risk management, governance and vendor management;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills, with a professional, proactive and solution-oriented approach; and

The Law Society seeks applications from enthusiastic and responsible person to fill the challenging position of Officer in Communications & External Affairs and Member Services Department.

Job Duties:

  • To assist in the organisation of functions and activities, classes, seminars, webinars, receptions and other functions of the Department;
  • To work with external parties including PR agencies and other service providers;
  • To arrange and participate in meetings of committees and working parties; draft agenda, papers and minutes and perform work incidental thereto;
  • To assist in the application and operation of Government funding schemes for the benefit of the profession/members;
  • To prepare budgets, reports and proposals;
  • To conduct research on legal and related topics, including searching, collating and analysing information, figures and policy updates to support departmental work 
  • To assist in the preparation of communication materials such as speeches, presentations, reports, letters and publicity content

Requirements:

  • A degree holder with at least 3 years' experience in event management, communications, research, media/publication or member services;

  • Independent and a good team player; strong communication skills and able to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
  • A good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua);
  • Proficiency in computer skills including MS Office and Chinese Word Processing;
