The Law Society of Hong Kong is a professional association for solicitors in Hong Kong vested with statutory powers to regulate the professional conduct of solicitors, trainee solicitors and foreign lawyers. It was incorporated in 1907 as a company limited by guarantee.

At the invitation of the Milan Bar Association (“MBA”), President Roden Tong attended the Opening of the Legal Year (“OLY”) 2026 and a series of professional engagement activities in Milan, Italy, from 29 to 31 January.
On 29 January, President Tong met with MBA leadership to exchange updates on legal developments and explore future collaboration, such as co organising webinars and exchanges for young lawyers. On 30 January, President Tong attended a roundtable discussion titled “Lawyers, Judges, Prosecutors: Different Career Paths in Different Jurisdictions”, where bar leaders shared insights on professional structures worldwide, reaffirming shared commitment to integrity and professionalism.
The formal Ceremony on 31 January at the Court of Milan featured addresses by President of the Court of Appeal of Milan Giuseppe Ondei, and MBA President Antonino La Lumia, emphasising the importance of judicial independence and the role of justice in societal stability. President La Lumia also reflected on his recent visit to Hong Kong for OLY 2026, during which he spoke on artificial intelligence at the Presidents’ Roundtable. The subsequent Gala Dinner provided further opportunities for professional exchange.
These engagements among global legal leaders continue to strengthen mutual understanding and reaffirm the importance of international cooperation within the legal profession.
