The Law Society, with the support of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (“CUHK”) and its Faulty of Law, hosted a symposium titled “First, But Not Last: Women Leaders Reimagining Justice in Asia” on 20 January at the CUHK, in commemorating the 20th anniversary of CUHK’s Faculty of Law.

Moderated by President Roden Tong, the event featured three pioneering Asian female leaders as guest speakers: The Right Honourable Tun Tengku Maimun binti Tuan Mat, Malaysia’s first female Chief Justice; Dr the Honourable Elsie Leung Oi-sie, GBM, JP, the first Secretary for Justice of the HKSAR; and Ms Melissa Pang, BBS, MH, JP, the first female President of the Law Society.

The event attracted over 180 registrants, including young lawyers and students from three local law schools, senior university representatives, as well as prominent members of the legal profession, including Dr the Honourable Horace Cheung, SBS, JP, Deputy Secretary for Justice; The Honourable Nick Chan, BBS, MH, JP, Legislative Council Member (Functional Constituency - Legal); Mr C. M. Chan, JP, Director of Legal Aid.

The evening concluded with a dinner, providing young participants with the opportunity to engage with distinguished speakers and leaders, fostering intergenerational dialogue and inclusion within the legal community.

The Symposium brought together pioneering female leaders who shared insights on how women leaders are driving meaningful change for justice across Asia.
