At the invitation of LAWASIA, President Roden Tong, along with young members Ms May Leung and Ms Tiffany Hui, attended the 38th LAWASIA Conference in Hanoi, Vietnam, from 11 to 13 October 2025. Themed “Transacting in the Asia-Pacific – Legal, Cultural and Environmental Challenges”, the Conference attracted over 600 delegates from more than 40 jurisdictions. Immediate Past President Mr C. M. Chan and Past President Ms Melissa Pang also participated in their capacities as Executive Committee Member and Immediate Past President of LAWASIA respectively.

On 11 October 2025, President Tong represented the Law Society and Hong Kong at the LAWASIA Annual Council Meeting in his official capacity as Councillor. Member organisations from across the region shared updates on key legal developments and challenges over the past year, addressing the evolving needs of the legal profession. 

On 12 October 2025, President Tong spoke at the “One Belt, One Road” session titled “Strengthening Legal Cooperation in Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Projects: Navigating Domestic Laws, International Frameworks, and Cross-Border Dispute Resolution”. He underscored Hong Kong's strengths in dispute resolution and shared key developments, including the Law Society’s “Legal Rendezvous” series, the recently implemented Stablecoins Ordinance (Cap. 656), and the establishment of the International Organisation for Mediation headquarters in Hong Kong. 

During the Conference, constructive meetings were held with the LAWASIA, the Law Council of Australia, the Vietnam Bar Federation, the Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association, and the Kaohsiung Bar Association to exchange views on issues of shared interest and explore future collaboration.

Our active participation in international legal conferences reaffirms Hong Kong’s unique legal regime under “One Country, Two Systems”, positioning the city as a beacon of innovation and legal excellence.
