Marking the 8th Belt and Road Conference, a signature event of the Law Society since 2017, the Law Society participated for the first time in the 10th Belt and Road Summit, co-organised by the Hong Kong SAR Government and HKTDC. Our Conference was featured as the grand finale of the Summit.

On 11 September 2025, themed “Leading Change Through Legal Excellence”, the Conference explored how Hong Kong’s legal system can take a leading role in the Belt and Road Initiative, while examining the synergy between law, financial services, and technology. Moderated by Dr Thomas So, JP, Past President of the Law Society and Chairman of its Belt and Road Committee, the panel featured esteemed speakers including Mr Roden Tong, President of the Law Society; Mr Joseph Chan, JP, Under Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of the Hong Kong SAR Government; Mr George Chou, Chief Fintech Officer of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority; Ms Anna Liu, CEO of HashKey Tokenisation; and Ms Elizabeth Wong, Director and Head of the Fintech Unit within the Intermediaries Division of the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong. The event was well-attended by around 400 participants.

The legal profession will continue to serve as a driving force for regional economic development under the Belt and Road Initiative.
