Council Member and member of the International Legal Affairs Committee Heidi Chui attended the Alternative Dispute Resolution Conference 2025 in Singapore, jointly organised by LAWASIA and The Law Society of Singapore from 22 to 23 May.
As a speaker at a plenary session titled “Ethics in AI in the Dispute Resolution Process”, Ms Chui shared insights on how Hong Kong is navigating the artificial intelligence (“AI”) revolution with both innovation and caution. She also took the opportunity to introduce the Law Society’s Position Paper on “The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on the Legal Profession”, and the Hong Kong Judiciary’s “Guidelines on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence for Judges and Judicial Officers and Support Staff of the Hong Kong Judiciary”. Both documents stress the principles of judicial independence and accountability.
Ms Chui’s presentation was concluded with a key reflection – that the use of AI must align with the fundamental values of the legal profession: integrity, fairness, and justice. May we and every legal professional join hands to remain the decision-makers, ensuring that AI serves as a tool to support, rather than replacing human judgment.
Attracting over 200 delegates from across the region, the Conference examined the evolving landscape of alternative dispute resolution and its pivotal role in navigating the complexities of today’s dynamic legal environment.
