The Law Society’s delegation, including Vice-President Amirali Nasir, the Law Society’s representative on the Young Commonwealth Lawyers Association (“YCLA”) Committee Mr Tony Lau, alongside young lawyers Ms Joanna Tong and Ms Vanessa Cheng, participated in the 24th Commonwealth Law Conference 2025, hosted by the Commonwealth Lawyers Association (“CLA”) in St Julian’s Bay, Malta, from 6 to 10 April.
Apart from engaging in fruitful discussions with various bar leaders at the Bar Leaders’ Summit, Mr Nasir spoke about Hong Kong’s work in maintaining corporate integrity and combating corruption with real life case examples at the session on “Corporation and Corruption”. Following this, Mr Nasir moderated a session on “AI regulations: Concept and Governance”, which featured critical discussions on the use of AI and the challenges faced by Commonwealth lawyers concerning AI.
Meanwhile, Mr Lau delivered a presentation on “Financial Innovation for Economic Development”. He illustrated how Hong Kong, as an international financial centre under the “One Country, Two Systems” framework, leverages its robust legal system and the Mainland's advanced technological development to make significant contributions to the unbanked and underbanked populations in Southeast Asia. Concluding, Mr Nasir as Co-convenor of the CLA Legal Technology Committee, together with other committee members, presented and launched the “CLA Declaration on the Use of AI” on 9 April.
