Representing the Law Society, President C. M. Chan, Immediate Past President Melissa Pang and young lawyer Rita Huen attended the 36th LAWASIA Conference in Bengaluru, India, from 24 to 27 November 2023.

At the LAWASIA Annual Council Meeting on 24 November, member organisations shared updates on major legal developments and challenges in respective jurisdictions over the past year. This year, Mr Chan was re-elected as an Executive Committee (“ExCo”) Member for the term 2023-2024. Ms Pang concluded her 3-year term (2021-2023) as LAWASIA President and assumed the role of Immediate Past President for the term of 2023-2024. 

During the Annual Conference, while Ms Pang was invited to deliver welcome remarks at the opening ceremony and farewell speech at the closing ceremony in her capacity as the LAWASIA President on 24 and 26 November respectively, Mr Chan was also invited to join a panel discussion on “Legal Imagination and Initiatives for Environmental Protection” on 26 November to talk about the ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance practice) development in Hong Kong, including the Corporate Social Responsibility and the Law Society’s work in these areas.

Thanks to the arrangement made by the Advocates Association Bangalore, the international delegates had the privilege of visiting the High Court of Karnataka to gain insights into the local legal and court systems.

Ms Pang and Mr Chan spoke at the 36th LAWASIA Conferencein Bengaluru, India. 

Constructive meetings to explore possible future collaboration were arranged with counterparts who have signed Memoranda of Understanding with the Law Society, including the Bar Association of India (top), Seoul Bar Association (middle) and Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia (bottom).
