The Law Society of Hong Kong is a professional association for solicitors in Hong Kong vested with statutory powers to regulate the professional conduct of solicitors, trainee solicitors and foreign lawyers. It was incorporated in 1907 as a company limited by guarantee.

At the invitation of the National Bar Association of Kazakhstan, Immediate Past President Melissa Pang (also in her capacity as President of LAWASIA) attended the VII Kazakhstan International Forum of Lawyers (“the Forum”) in Astana, Kazakhstan, on 6 October 2023. Entitled “Strong legal profession is the Basis of the Rule of Law”, the Forum was a key event in the Central Asian region where bar leaders and international experts discussed the latest developments and pressing issues affecting the legal profession universally.
Ms Pang spoke in two sessions of the Forum, namely “Organisation of the legal profession in the world” and “Leadership and management in the legal profession. Personal brand of the lawyer. Lawyer’s mindset and ethics in modern conditions”. She took the opportunity to introduce to the international community the Hong Kong legal profession and services, including the regulatory regime of lawyers in Hong Kong and the Law Society’s work in safeguarding the rule of law. Apart from attending the formal events of the Forum, Ms Pang met with the bar leaders in the region, who showed immense interest to be in step with the international legal community.

Ms Pang was awarded with a Medal “For contribution to the development of legal profession” by the National Bar Association of Kazakhstan in recognition of her support of the legal profession of Kazakhstan and participation in the Forum.
