(for immediate release)
It is sad and regrettable that matters in respect of the Bill resulted in the violent conflict that was reported in the areas of Central and Admiralty on 12 June 2019. Hong Kong is a civilized society with a diverse population, where engagement through rational debate has always been respected. The Law Society maintains the view that the Bill has far-reaching ramifications and requires careful and thorough examination, discussion and analysis in a calm, rational and constructive manner with a view to finding a suitable solution for the benefit of Hong Kong as a whole. Violence only aggravates differences and endangers order and stability, and should have no place in a civilized society.
The Law Society urges all interested parties to engage in a civilized debate to resolve sensibly the differences to the benefit of the future of Hong Kong.
