On 11 January 2011, the Law Society of Hong Kong and Taipei Bar Association signed their first collaboration agreement with a view to enhancing the development of a closer relationship between the two associations as well as fostering friendly exchanges among their members.

Mr. Huen Wong, President of the Law Society of Hong Kong and Mr. Lee Chia-ching, President of Taipei Bar Association signed the agreement on behalf of their respective professional bodies at the Hong Kong Law Society offices. The signing ceremony was also attended by members from both associations.

"The signing ceremony represents a milestone in the development of a closer relationship in all aspects between the Law Society of Hong Kong and Taipei Bar Association, as this is the first Memorandum of Collaboration signed by the two professional bodies," said Mr. Wong.

After the signing ceremony, Mr. Lee said: We wish to step up training for young lawyers between the two professional bodies after signing the agreement. We also wish to jointly organize more formal activities such as professional forums with the Law Society of Hong Kong some time this year.

The signing of the Memorandum of Collaboration signifies the commitment of both associations in a mutual exchange of information on matters related to the legal profession. Both sides agree to forge closer co-operation in developing researches which aim to facilitate deeper understanding of the judicial systems in the two jurisdictions.
