A joyful opening ceremony cum a drama for the 2010 Law Week will be staged at Kwai Tsing Theatre Plaza on 4 December, starting from 2:30 pm. Hundreds of attendees are expected, including members of NGOs, students and general public.

This year is the 20th anniversary of Law Week. Bearing the theme of “Benefit from Knowing the Law”, 2010 Law Week aims to enrich the public’s legal knowledge relevant to daily life.

The officiating guests of this year’s Opening Ceremony include The Chief Justice, The Hon. Justice Ma; The Secretary for Justice, Mr. Wong Yan Lung SC; Legislator The Hon. Margaret Ng, The Chairman of the Legal Aid Services Council, Mr. Paul Chan MH; The Director of Legal Aid, Mr. William Chan; The Chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association, Mr. Russell Coleman SC, and the President of the Law Society, Mr. Huen Wong.

Mr. Hon Justice Ma, as an officiating guest for the first time after his appointment, will deliver a speech.

As in previous years, Law Week enjoys the sponsorship from the Legal Aid Department, and also the support of the government departments and other professional bodies.

There will be jazz and ballet performance at the ceremony, followed by two shorts drama featuring civil celebrant and mediation services to be performed by solicitors and volunteers. The premiere of the Law Week drama titled “The Oi’s family” covering legal issues to be performed by Chung Ying Theatre Company with cameo appearance by solicitors will also be staged.

Following the Opening Ceremony, a series of programmes will be launched, including:

  1. TV promotion campaign

    10 episodes of 1-minute special features will be broadcasted on ATV Home, HDATV services and Roadshow from 6 December to 17 December. The series covers highlights of 2010 Law Week activities and 9 different areas of law including conveyancing, matrimonial matters, probate, mediation, personal injury, building management issues, cyber law and legal aid service and judicial review.
  2. Legal drama

    A legal drama will be produced and performed by the Chung Ying Theatre Group at the Youth Square in Chaiwan from 16 to 18 December. Solicitors will participate in the drama to interact with the audience on the spot. The drama will be in Cantonese.

- 16 December 2010 (Thursday): 7:30 pm to 9 pm
- 17 December 2010 (Friday): 7:30 pm to 9 pm
- 18 December 2010 (Saturday): 2:30 pm to 4 pm and 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm
