The Law Society of Hong Kong ('The Law Society') is saddened by the Manila hostage tragedy, and expresses its deepest sorrow and condolences to the injured victims and their families, and to the families whose loved ones perished.
"We wish to extend legal assistance to the injured victims and the families of the deceased. The Law Society is now consulting with legal professionals in the Philippines for information on the local laws and procedure applicable to the victims and their families to seek compensation. A helpline managed by the Pro Bono Committee of the Law Society has been set up to provide relevant information to the victims and their families in need of assistance," said The Law Society President Mr. Huen Wong.
The Helpline, 2846 0580 is already operating during normal office hours (9 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 5 pm), Monday to Friday, until the end of November 2010.
