The Law Society welcomes the passage by the Legislative Council of the 2012 constitutional reform.
"The 2012 constitutional reform is in line with the provisions of the Basic Law and the NPCSC decision made in 2007 governing electoral arrangements for selecting the Chief Executive and for forming the Legislative Council in 2012. The electoral method with respect to the five new LegCo seats returned by the functional constituency of District Councils must be carefully worked out to ensure that it is fair, equal and broadly representative," said Mr. Huen Wong, President of the Law Society.
Mr. Wong also calls on the Government to move ahead with full speed in working out the details for implementing universal suffrage by 2017 for the Chief Executive and by 2020 for the Legislative Council.
