The Law Society of Hong Kong is closely monitoring the developments in the controversy concerning the Citizens’ Radio station and notes the continued operation of the station despite an injunction being ordered in the Court of First Instance prohibiting the station from doing so.
The Law Society does not comment on the merits of the decisions of the magistrate or on the Administration’s application for an injunction. The fact is that the Court of First Instance has made an order embodying the injunction.
Of importance in this matter is the respect for our courts. The rule of law will exist only if we all have proper respect for the courts. Whatever the battles between the Government and the radio station, a court’s decision should be respected, and the due process of law should be followed.
If certain members of the community fail in this, there is a risk that the respect and trust that we have in the courts will be undermined.
