"Policies, Strategies and Opportunities"
Organised by the Department of Justice and the Law Society of Hong Kong, the webinar on opportunities for Hong Kong's legal industry under the 14th Five-Year Plan was held successfully on 12 April 2021. Guest speakers included Vice-Chairman of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Mr C Y Leung and Vice-Chairperson of the Committee for the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region under the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Ms Maria Tam, as well as the Secretary for Justice Ms Teresa Cheng. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the legal heavyweights who joined us as speakers as well. Together, the guests provided great insights for our members and audience, particularly on grasping opportunities under Mainland’s national policies and equipping ourselves to maintain the strength of Hong Kong’s legal profession. In response to queries raised at the briefing, SJ reiterated that the ultimate aim to select the Chief Executive, and to elect all members of LegCo, by universal suffrage as set out in Articles 45 and 68 of the Basic Law respectively has not changed. Nevertheless, in accordance with those provisions, the actual situation in Hong Kong and the principle of gradual and orderly progress must be taken into account. We are pleased to learn that aside from the 250 attendees joining us via Zoom, the event attracted a viewership of over 87,000 from online media. Members may click here to watch the recorded webinar. National Security Education Day
Article 10 of The Law of the People's Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (“National Security Law”) provides that the Hong Kong SAR shall promote national security education in schools, universities and through social organisations, the media, the internet and other means to raise the awareness of Hong Kong residents of national security and of the obligation to abide by the law. 15 April is designated as National Security Education Day and last Thursday, 15 April 2021 was the first National Security Education Day for Hong Kong after the implementation of our National Security Law. Electoral Reforms
The Improving Electoral System (Consolidated Amendments) Bill 2021 was introduced to LegCo on 14 April 2021. The relevant specialist committee of the Law Society is studying the detailed provisions of the Bill.

國家安全教育日
《中華人民共和國香港特別行政區維護國家安全法》（《國安法》）第十條指明，香港特區應當通過學校、社會團體、媒體、網絡等開展國家安全教育，提高香港居民的國家安全意識和守法意識。 4月15日定為國家安全教育日，而上星期四（4月15日）是香港在《國安法》生效後首個國家安全教育日。關於2021年國家安全教育日的主題內容及根據《國安法》第十條開展的推廣計劃，請參閱專題網頁。
選舉改革
《2021年完善選舉制度(綜合修訂)條例草案》已於2021年4月14日提交立法會作首讀。律師會的相關專責委員會現正研究條例草案的詳細條文。
