Transportation from the Hong Kong International Airport

The high-speed Airport Express takes approximately 24 minutes to reach Hong Kong Island and is the fastest way to get between the city and the airport. Train services are provided daily between 05:54 and 00:48 and at 10-minute intervals. Train tickets can be purchased at the Airport Express Customer Service Centre located in the Arrivals Hall of the Hong Kong International Airport. Alternatively, taxis offer a door-to-door service to and from the Hong Kong International Airport.

Hong Kong has a subtropical climate, with typhoon season from May to November.  Currency

Hong Kong’s official currency is the Hong Kong Dollar (HKD), denoted as “HK$.” Banknotes range from HK$10 to HK$1,000, and coins from 10 cents to HK$10. Credit cards are widely accepted, and currency exchange is available at banks, hotels, and licensed money changers.

 

 Language 

Cantonese and English are the languages commonly spoken in Hong Kong. Most street signs, menus, tourist and government publications are usually bilingual – Chinese and English. 

 

 Time zone 

Local Hong Kong time is eight (8) hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +8).

 

 Electricity

The standard electrical voltage in Hong Kong is 220 volts AC, 50HZ, so you will need an adaptor for your 100-volt appliances and electrical equipment. The majority of electrical outlets in Hong Kong take a three-pronged plug. 

 

 Latest plastic-free measure

Starting from 22 April 2024, hotels in Hong Kong no longer provide free disposable plastic toiletries and bottled water in guestrooms, in compliance with the Product Eco-responsibility (Amendment) Ordinance 2023 for regulating disposable plastic products. Guests are encouraged to bring their own toiletries to support a plastic-free environment. However, some hotels may still offer these items for a charge.
