INVESTIGATION COUNSEL (Ref: COM/IC)

The Law Society seeks applications from an enthusiastic and responsible solicitor to fill the position of Investigation Counsel in the Compliance Department. The appointee will be responsible for investigating complaints, conducting inspections against law firms and assisting Intervention Agents in the intervention of law firms.

Requirements:

  • More than 3 years' post-qualification experience;
  • Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua) and be able to prepare written reports in English;
  • Previous investigation experience will be an advantage;
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills, organized, highly efficient and independent.

ASSISTANT, COMPLIANCE (Ref: COM/ASST)

The Law Society seeks applications from an enthusiastic and responsible person to fill the position of Assistant in the Compliance Department. 

Job Duties:

  • To perform secretarial and clerical support to Monitoring Accountants (“MAs”);
  • To collate documents and assist the MAs to prepare relevant reports;
  • To assist the MAs to prepare draft correspondence (including letters and emails) and maintain proper filing of documents both physically and digitally.

Requirements:

  • Form 5 / HKDSE or above (or equivalent qualification) with a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua);
  • Accounting or relevant field studies preferred with basic knowledge of principles of accounts; 
  • Welcome candidates with bookkeeping and accounting related experience; 
  • At least 1 year secretarial/clerical working experience;
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Chinese Word Processing;
  • Good communication manner; and 
  • Immediate availability is preferable.

ASSISTANT, MEMBER SERVICES (Ref: MS/ASST)

The Law Society seeks applications from enthusiastic, competent and suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Assistant in the Member Services Department. The position will be responsible for event support, data entry, filing, handling telephone enquiries, and providing general clerical support to the Member Services Department. 

Job Duties:

  • To assist in the co-ordination of events, activities and seminars/webinars and provide onsite support;
  • To type, copy and distribute agenda, papers and minutes of meetings;
  • To assist in the operation of Helplines maintained by the Department and any work incidental thereto;
  • To coordinate in the production of Law Society publications;
  • To assist in updating and posting information in the Law Society website, App, online registration systems and/or other social media platforms; and
  • To handle secretarial and clerical duties as shall be delegated.

Requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications with a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese;
  • At least 1 year office working experience;
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Chinese Word Processing;

ASSISTANT, REGISTRATION (Ref: COM/REG/ASST)

The Law Society seeks applications from enthusiastic, responsible person to fill the position of Assistant in the Registration Section of the Compliance Department.

Job Duties:

  • To provide clerical support to the Registration Officers and Assistant Director, Registration;
  • To assist the Registration Officers in processing applications for admission, renewal of membership and practising certificates, registration of training contracts, registration of foreign lawyers and foreign law firms, and to prepare relevant reports;
  • To answer enquiries from the public and members;
  • To process and issue membership cards for solicitors, trainee solicitors, registered foreign lawyers and student members; and
  • To arrange dispatch of documents, maintain the relevant outgoing records and oversee the filing system.

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications with good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, fluent in Putonghua preferred;
  • Minimum 1 year of clerical experience, those gained in the legal field is an advantage;
  • Good command of MS Office and Chinese Word Processing, proficient in Excel application is a must;
  • Good telephone manner;
  • A good team player, organized, hardworking and efficient; and
  • Immediately available is highly preferred.

COMMUNICATIONS AND EXTERNAL AFFAIRS OFFICER (Ref: CEA/OFR)

The Law Society seeks applications from enthusiastic, competent and suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Communications and External Affairs Officer.

The appointee will be responsible for supporting the communications and external affairs function of the Law Society. This includes assisting in the organisation of community events and publicity campaigns to promote Hong Kong’s legal services and to enhance the corporate image of the Law Society. The appointee will also assist in preparing papers for committee meetings, drafting speeches, coordinating the production of promotional materials as well as news-monitoring.

Requirements:

  • A degree holder with 2 to 3 years of experience in similar capacity;
  • A good command of written and spoken English and Chinese, including proficiency in Putonghua;
  • Independent, strong communication skills, and able to multi-task and work under pressure;
  • Good computer skills, including MS Office and Chinese Word Processing;
  • Travelling may be required;
  • Experience in event management;
  • Knowledge in using video conferencing platforms, Photoshop and other graphic design software will be an advantage; and 
  • Immediate availability is preferable.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT (Ref: PA/RASST)

The Law Society seeks applications to fill the position of Research Assistant in the Practitioners Affairs Department.  The Research Assistant is to work with a team and to assist among others the Research Officer and the Dispute Resolution Coordinator in the discharge of their day-to-day work responsibilities.

Job Duties include:

  • Assisting with legal and policy researches on law-related matters including constitutional affairs, human rights issues, sports/e-sports law, mediation, arbitration, alternative dispute resolutions as well as legal practices and law reforms;
  • Drafting speeches and preparing presentation materials;
  • Preparing case digests and drafting discussion papers;
  • Maintaining and updating databases on legal cases and authorities;
  • Assisting with the committee businesses such as organizing trainings and events for the Law Society; and
  • Handling simple enquiries including those on alternative dispute resolutions.

Requirements:

  • University Graduate (preferably having taken subjects on or related to law, social sciences, sociology, journalism or humanities) with a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese;
  • Speech writing and research experience;
  • At least 2 years’ working experience;
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Chinese Word Processing;
  • Good telephone manners; and
  • Good sense in current affairs and issues.
