In response to the Tai Po Tragic Fire, The Law Society of Hong Kong has set up a temporary panel under the “Emergency Free Legal Helpline for Tai Po Tragic Fire” 28401011 since 27 November 2025. The Helpline provides preliminary free legal advice to the public on the five areas of law, namely:

  • Personal Injuries
  • Wills & Probate
  • Insurance
  • Civil Litigation
  • Building Management

The panel of solicitors will provide up to 45 minutes of free consultation on legal issues in the areas of Personal Injuries, Wills & Probate, Insurance, Civil Litigation and Building Management. If you are the victim or a relative of the victim of Tai Po Tragic Fire, you can make enquries by 28401011 and providing the following information to the operator:
  • Full name
  • Telephone number
  • The related residential unit
  • Specific contents of the consultation

Under normal circumstances, a panel solicitor will contact you within three (3) hours of your call to the Helpline and will provide up to 45 minutes of free advice in relation to your legal issue.

The provision of legal advice through the Emergency Free Legal Helpline for Tai Po Tragic Fire (the "Service") is by individual panel solicitors on a pro-bono basis. The Law Society does not accept any responsibilities and shall not be held liable in contract, tort (including negligence), or otherwise for any loss or damage whatsoever arising from and/or suffered in connection with the Service and/or any legal advice provided by panel solicitors.

All calls will be processed and panel solicitors will be invited to contact the callers within three (3) hours of the call to the Helpline. While we strive to provide the best possible assistance through the Helpline, there may be circumstances where a call may not be handled by a panel solicitor. The Law Society does not accept liability should the limitation period expire when the call is being processed or a panel solicitor could not be arranged to handle the call.

 

Remarks:

1. Personal data, including but not limited to the full names and telephone numbers of the caller and/or the victim (the “data subject”), is collected for the purposes of administering the Helpline and assignment of cases only. The data subject consents to the Law Society for using his or her personal data for the said purposes. All personal data will be deleted within six (6) months from the date of the call.
2. Members of the public who have already obtained legal aid or engaged a lawyer for the matter are not eligible to use the Helpline. 
3. The Helpline is available from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. from Monday to Sunday.
